This tree dances on a rock island in the sky at Needles Overlook - a guardian spirit of the place.

It is an elemental spirit, dancing on the edge of the world.  I was hiking in Canyonlands, in the remote northern section called Island in the Sky. An afternoon thunderstorm was brewing, and I headed for a spectacular viewpoint called Needles Overlook, trying to get there before the storm broke. As I raced around a rock outcrop and up the trail, there she was, silhouetted against the sky. I have never heard the command, “Paint me!” so loud and clear.
