The south side of Palo Colorado Canyon is defined by the long, sinuous line of Mescal Ridge with its dragons back of small peaks, descending to the sea. The upper slopes are green with grasses in spring, golden in summer and fall. Its lower slopes are clad in oak, bay, madrone and as the canyon deepens, redwoods. It commands a wonderful view all the way down the coast beyond Big Sur.
